Joomla sites on old PHP won't get a patch.
The new PHP vulnerabilities affect every PHP version from 5.4 up to the latest releases before the fix. Joomla 3 sites often run on PHP 7.x or 8.0, which are end of life and will stay vulnerable.
Is the PHP Joomla runs on affected?
Run php -v on the server. A patched version on disk only protects you after every PHP worker restarts. Distro packages can carry backported fixes under older version numbers, so we confirm against your vendor's changelog.
What makes these sites a target.
Joomla 3 is end of life
Joomla 3 support ended in 2023. Those sites usually can't move to PHP 8.2+ without upgrading Joomla first.
Extensions limit PHP versions
Older templates and components often fail on PHP 8.2+, so sites stay on vulnerable versions.
Contact forms and uploads
Form builders, file managers and registration pages accept the request types these exploits use.
Shared hosting hides the details
Many Joomla sites run on shared hosting where the PHP version is chosen in a control panel and rarely checked.
How we fix it on Joomla.
The first commands we run, read-only:
php -v
# In Joomla admin: System > System Information > PHP versionInventory
We check the Joomla version, PHP version and extensions from System Information and the server.
Plan the path
Joomla 4 and 5 sites move to a patched PHP release. Joomla 3 sites need a migration plan, which we scope with you.
Upgrade and restart
We switch to patched PHP, restart the PHP workers, and test the front end and admin.
Harden and verify
We lock down php.ini settings and add edge rules for forms and uploads.
Any cloud, any VPS, any server.
The fix is the same everywhere: a patched PHP build, restarted workers and hardened settings. We work on VMs, containers, Kubernetes, serverless runtimes and control-panel hosting.

Authorize
You sign a short scope and authorization. We don't scan or touch any system without it.
Inventory
We record every PHP version, server, container and worker process in scope.
Plan
You get a fixed quote, a schedule and a rollback plan before any change.
Patch and restart
We upgrade PHP and restart every worker so no vulnerable code stays in memory.
Verify
We confirm the fix on every host and hand over a written report.
Don't restart the server yet.
If you see shells or tools like curl launched by PHP processes, PHPSESSID cookies longer than 256 bytes, or a spike in PHP worker crashes, contact us before you patch. Restarting wipes the memory evidence that shows what an attacker did. We preserve that evidence first, then work with an incident response firm if the investigation needs one.
Joomla questions.
Can you upgrade Joomla 3 to Joomla 5?
Yes. It's a larger project than a PHP upgrade, so we quote it separately after the exposure check.
We only have control-panel access.
That's often enough. We can change the PHP version in the panel and ask your host to confirm the workers restarted.
How long does a typical fix take?
For a current Joomla 4 or 5 site, usually a single session. Older sites depend on their extensions.
